Bernie, Green-Winged Macaw

Bernie was originally rescued from a roadside zoo by someone who knew he deserved a better quality of life. She wanted him to live with other birds of his kind in a true sanctuary setting. Once she learned Blue was a Black Pine resident, she visited to see if BPAS would be a suitable home for Bernie for the REST of his life. Bernie moved in shortly after. We look forward to watching Blue and Bernie become friends and enjoy one another’s companionship. Bernie is incredibly talkative and curious, already picking up new vocabulary from his caregivers! He can often be heard asking for a cracker.

We are grateful for the bond he and his caretaker shared. Having seen these birds’ intelligence and destructive nature firsthand, she sends enrichment and toys to keep Bernie and all our birds occupied.
