Marilyn and Julianne, Japanese Snow Macaques
Primates
Marilyn and Julianne, a mother-daughter duo, came to Black Pine Animal Sanctuary (BPAS) from a facility that needed to rehome them. Formerly breeding females, they were removed from the breeding program due to their age and dominant behaviors.
Before they arrived at BPAS, their holding area was strictly inside, with only a small window. The prior facility did not think it provided them with a quality of life, so they chose BPAS as their forever home.
Marilyn and Julianne were quarantined and given full medical exams at their previous facility. Upon arrival, they were able to be introduced to the Primate House immediately. They were provided time to acclimate to their new surroundings and then introduced to resident Tucker.
Tucker and the ladies only took a few days to adjust to the new living arrangements. Tucker, a former “pet,” quickly learned normal primate behaviors, and the girls accepted him as part of their troop. They are all protective of one another, and their caretakers say it has been delightful to watch their relationships grow and develop.
